my weekend

consisted of a lot of Wendover,

a lot of tequila,

and a lot of wtf.

After a day of recovering, I squeezed in some craft time.

I made this vase from a recycled Pucker bottle

(yes, the remaining Pucker did go down the drain because...ew.)

Speaking of recycling, remember the spiky fabric flowers we made here?
I almost threw away the little leftover triangle scraps from cutting the circles.

Then, I remembered the cute mini flags from How About Orange on this post. I said to myself self, you should try making something similar with your extra fabric triangles and twine. Here's the result:

After a couple hot glue burns and some trimming, I created this cute bottle vase:

Any ideas of how else I could use this mini flag garland? Send em my way, please.

sick day

It's 10 degrees here in Utah today. I have strep throat and my voice sounds like a transvestite trying to impersonate Cher. I'm missing the Festivus party at work. I hate being the only soul in the apartment. It's days like this that I could really use a pet. We could snuggle and keep each other company. I'm blue, can you tell?

Since today inevitably sucks, I decided to perk it up a bit by doing something that makes me happy. You guessed it...work on wedding plans. Remember the old lace curtains from the second-hand store? I'm using them for the centerpiece vases. With just a bit of trimming and spray adhesive, I created these babies.

Adoring the details on the lace.

I cut the top of the lace a bit to create a scalloped design.
The threads are so far apart, so it was easy.

Added bonus of today's post: you get to see the lovely view of the mountains from the back deck of my 3rd floor apartment.

Now, I'm going to get back to work, keep steeping my tea, and stop complaining.

Yeah, so

this crafting thing has really taken over. I think it may have something to do with my favorite local craft store being located one mile from my house. I find myself looking around the apartment for things that are too plain--things I can transform NOW. Not good for the pocket book, but good for my sanity. I can't believe what a stress-reliever it is. Especially mod podging. It works on everything.

Anyway, my latest project: ugly filing cabinet turned two-drawer mod podged marvel.
Overboard? Yes, probably a little. But now I have a vibrant storage cabinet for our oh-so-important paperwork, bills, etc.

Here's a look at the details. I used some ribbon and recycled craft paper to make it eco-friendly.
The best part about this filing cabinet: it's still not even FINISHED. I need to do something with the sides. I am thinking some mod tree paper cutouts and paint? If you have suggestions, send em my way!

Here's a blog where I get a lot of inspiration. Thanks to my friend, Amy, for introducing me to this Amy.

fall fall fall

It's fall! And the colors are a'changin

On Sunday we went to Snow Basin for some fresh air, good BBQ and music. It was peaceful. And oh how I needed it.

Marlee and I took a ride on the gondola:

I really love hangin' out with Chris's fam. They are a big bunch of greatness.

DIY?

I could get used to these do-it-yourself projects. Changing things and mixin it up gives me great satisfaction. Also, by adding a personal touch to things in my house that are otherwise boring and the same as everyone else's, I'm turning my mass-produced thing, into a UNIQUE (possibly weird) thing.

D e c o u p a g e is a good way to add whimsical flair to furniture, dishes, vases, frames and SO MUCH MORE. Eventually I will be good at it.

My bathroom spacesaver is my first/latest experiment. I bought it a couple years ago at Target for $30. I used mod podge, craft paper and chipboard to get it just like I wanted.
